how do most of you now feel about the military?

was not sure where to post this, but i was curious, how do some of you now feel about the military?

would any of you let your children enlist, or would you yourselves join any military field?

how do you feel about the idea of women in the military?

Not serving a few years in the military is a regret I have. It is one of the influencing reason I chose to do a career change as a nurse recently. I left the JW world in my late teens but still had lingering beliefs that influenced my decisions in my early adult life.

My brother joined the Navy, but he was never baptized nor was heavily influenced by the witnesses. He has now over 10 years in the Navy and is currently stationed in Japan. He has been to more places in the last 10 years that most people will never see.

I have one last chance in serving. I will graduate with a BSN and be a registered nurse at age 40. Most branches will accept an RN as a commissioned officer up to age 41 or 42. It is a long shot. I just want to do 5 years even if it is just in the reserves.

what is the point of supporting a belief which began as a bronze age ox-headed idol called yahweh... in a religion designed for illiterate peasants now appropriated by a money-driven cult with a one hundred and forty six year unbroken record of total failure of its bible based predictions?.

I was not raised or born in. I converted at 25. And yes, I did study virtually all religions before converting from Presbyterian.

I have sympathy for those who wasted their life in this religion because they were born in it or raised in it. The fact you actually converted to this religion as an adult gives me an indication to your mental state. It is apparent you lack intellectual honesty with your above statement. You don't even have the convictions to follow your religion and instead visit and participate in known apostate sites. Again weak will, so sad.

The statement that you study virtually all religions indicates to me your truthfulness. There are over 4,200 active religions and 10s of thousands of sects and branches in those religions. This doesn't even include all the dead religions. I understand your masters the Governing Body has commanded you not to obtain a college education, but you might want to check out a few books at your local library.

Yes, I'm sure you've researched every single belief system and organization in the entire world. You are just a confused person with no convictions or backbone. Make a stand for your beliefs. Either you believe in a God and the Watchtower is his representation or you don't.

Do You Remember The First Time You Looked At "Apostate" Material?

i was always fascinated by it.

as a kid, i used to go to the local library and secretly read books by so called apostates.

later, i would sneak into christian book stores and quickly buy a book or two.

I didn't read anything related to anti JW until after I left. I went to some online forum around 1999 and there were topics about the changes to the generation teaching. I thought it was this site but I think this one started in 2001. Sites like this just helped me confirm my doubts.

Walking a thin line - Resigning Elder

warning of a long boring post ahead.

i feel like i need to vent my story out, as i feel quite helpless at the moment.. i'm 31 year old, married, father of toddler with another one on the way, due later this month.

i've been serving as elder for about 4 years now in a south florida congregation.

There are a few of us in the south florida area. Maybe you can branch out your support group so you don't feel so lonely. Making new friends takes time but helps in a situation like this.

It's Too Late to Return to Jehovah!

yes friends it is too late for most of you to return to jehovah's org.

based on the new garlic bread parable in this month's broadcast with the illustration using loaves of bread.

it is obvious that the doors of the arc has been closed shut by jehovah's hand for some of us.. according to the new parable that can be found on jw tv.

Never underestimate the organization making this religion even more embarrassing. I feel sorry for the children of uber parents that make them watch this stuff on family night worship.

yes, i know that someone is going to say that evolution does not encompass this topic and should be sectioned off under abiogenesis.

i'm not trying to argue semantics here but it seems like a case of avoiding an uncomfortable subject.

I believe God, 3 billion years ago, took a major shit on Earth and all life evolved from it. My belief is just as valid as creationist's beliefs.

just signed up and wanted to introduce myself.

i had 1 x-mas and 1 birthday before both my parents joined the jw's around 1966 or 67 being 1 year old i don't remember them (the holidays), to this day holidays are nothing to me (thanks jw's).

i never really believed the bible or jw literature.

Revealing Watchtower tax returns

under the freedom of information act, this guy has tax returns showing where your money goes, where it is invested, companies like northrop gruman, monsanto, cigarette and porn peddlers, and we thought we where giving money to god!

i am quite sickened to discover i was giving money to the watchtower to invest in arms manufacturers..

Then say it can't do anything about where this money is invested.

I have no intentions of explaining accounting principles or USA tax laws, I will leave that to an expert. However, what is of more interest to me about this topic and the comments made is:

Where do you think the WT should invest their money?

And when I speak of investment I mean a vehicle that will generate a financial return on the principle.

So the watchtower accepts this money from another person and then can distribute that money within the same financial year to whoever the watchtower wants for the last 15years and doesn't have control of the investments?That doesn't make sense.

Jeff is speaking as an experienced expert and an actual practitioner. Here is a topic where someone with actual credentials yet he is being dismissed.

If the WT receives a distribution from a trust fund they can use that distribution as they see fit. The control of investment within the trust fund is controlled by the trustee and the WT are the beneficiaries. What part of that doesn't make sense?
